Go with a new DCC Brown & Sharpe with PC-DMIS, and all the bells & whistles. Check out the user's web page at pc-dmis.com - that's better than any tech support or consultant. Don't believe any salesman that tells you a chimpanzee could run the machine, and they'll all tell you that! Don't expect to find a good CMM person for less than you're paying your good engineers.
I've been at this for a while, and I've run MTI, Sheffield, DEA and B&S machines. They're all okay, but the software makes the difference. If you can get a bargain on an older machine and retrofit it with PC-DMIS, that might be worthwhile.
You don't mention what you're manufacturing, but the major automotive companies on this side of the pond all just switched over to PC-DMIS, so that may say something about the quality of the package.
Finally, I don't get any kickbacks or commission from B&S or Wilcox Associates for blowing their horn like this, but I've been where you're at, and choosing this package has made me look like a genius around here!

Good luck & happy new year!!
