I work for a company that bought 7 CMMs in 1998 (5 Leitz and 2 DEA). Calibration of the machines for two years was included with the purchase. After that it will be required to pay B & S for each calibration or to sign a new contract. The calibration is done with a Koba step gage and software that came with the machines. If the machine is OK it will pass the test, if not, it needs to be remapped. We would like to perform the calibration ourselves and just if the CMM fails the test ask B & S to re-map it or fix it. The step gage is expensive but with 7 calibrations a year it would pay itself quickly. I would like to know if other CMM users perform calibrations themselves or if it is a much more involved process and we should stay away from it.

Thanks
