Richard,

I am not certain in the exact reverse engineering you are referring to. We have had success with using Silma CimStation and LK-DMIS. We create a program from a model and run it on the cmm. With the output file we are able to bring in the actual x,y,z,I,j,k points back onto the model and do a best fit analysis. We have also just scanned data from a part and brought those points in and fit them to a model without creating a program from the model.

In our company this is what we refer to as “reverse engineering”. If you are talking about taking something produced from someone else and creating a 3-D model from points that you measure…I don’t have a need for that capability.
