We have had a ScanMax for over a year now and it has it's place however if you have had experience with a full CNC CMM you may be taken back by the manual probe movement required.
That for me was the biggest downside to the system.
It does provide a great deal of information with very little work. The ability to collect alot of data points is a big plus. It is also quite easy to use for quick measurements of diameters and surfaces. Are you going to use on the shop floor or it a lab?
We have the optional tilt table but to tell the truth I have yet to set it up. You may want to contact Josh Farmer of Whirlpool. He is a user on this web site and from the messages he has posted I believe he is far more informed about the ScanMax than I am. If you want to contact me directly please feel free to email me at "eabryce@sandia.gov". I work at a government facility so you might as well put your tax dollars to work.
