Topic: Measurement of a cone

I am fairly new to metrology and have a question concerning measurement of a cone in DMIS code. I want to measure a portion of a cone (frustum). And then intersect the cone with a constructed plane to make a gage point circle diameter. (similar to "CONE & DIAMETER INTERSECTION" post)

How many different ways can I define a cone in DMIS? Is it metrologically "legal" to measure two circles on that cone and construct a cone thru those two circles. Can this even be done in DMIS code?

The reason I am asking...
I would like to define each circle with three pts., then auto-measure (construct evenly-spaced number of pts.) with 10+ pts.

I purchased the DMIS Standards manual today, but I need an answer quicker than before it will ship.

I am using an IMS CMM w/ Virtual-DMIS, which shouldn't make a difference.

Thanks in advance,
