I learned about this VAST problem about a year ago from John
Garuuder of CMS. I have not done any testing to prove it out for myself but I would like to. I also have a retrofitted UPMC 550 with UMESS UX and a high speed scanning head. I would like to see if it behaves the same way. If you wish you can contact me at eabryce@sandia.gov.
