I have had experience in the metrology portion of getting my corporation ready for ISO/QS9000. To tell you the truth, it was a lot of hard work. You need to document what you are going to do, how you are going to do it and that you did it that way.

Be careful of your approved supplier lists. Make sure you ISO register is on the list. Make sure that your calibration sources are on the list and that you review any certificates of calibration from them.

At my company,we have three levels. Policy, Procedure, and Work Instructions. From General to very specific. The policy is signed by the president, and the Procedures and Work Instructions are signed by Vice Presidents on down to Managers depending on the scope of document.

A major problem that a lot of companies may face is that the "Management" wants ISO/QS 9000, but the employees do NOT see management working hard in helping get it. Once the Management is 'committed' then the workers will follow.

Good Luck
