At the shop where I work, we have a Renishaw MP1s head. This thing has been here longer than I have been (over 11 years) and we all got to wondering about it. I have never seen it in any of the Renishaw catalogs. This head is set up to fit in a 2" end mill holder. We don't have a cord (as far as I know) nor to we have any software to use it on a mill. It was apparently made to be using on a CNC mill for some reason, but none of us can figure anything out about it (or why we even have it). Was this 'thing' something Renishaw made way back in the early days, before everyone had to have a CMM so that inspections of a kind could be carried out with a CNC mill? And, is there any way to make this thing work on a CMM. Obviously a different mount would have to be made, but that is a very minor detail compared to the wiring, etc. Any information would be vastly welcome.
