I recently came back to CMMWorld with a sincere confidence in it's members and a stronger effort to be of help to the community. I was reading from the Misc. conference and came across the following comments about CheckMate below. I must say I agree with Mark Matthews. Although I can not elaborate on the ability of CheckMate back in 1998. Today I have to disagree with Alan Norsworthy. Perhaps today Alan, you may have a new perspective about Origin. But just to clarify the facts as your old discussion remains to be seen, let there be no confusion as to whether or not CheckMate can run any system. Origin has been linking the CAD model to the measurement process since 1988. Running any CMM system is what they set out to accomplish from the start. Today, with customers across North America, the UK, France, Korea and Japan, "Origin International Inc. is the most experienced and focused supplier of CAD<>CMM Integration Software. One product line, the CheckMate suite, with over a decade of continuous improvements, based on real application, in-field performance". Taken from their website see Company Info/Competitive Advantages http://www.origin.com/public/advantage.htm

Also from their website, see Products/CheckMate Modules/CheckMate Programming. "Utilizing math data from all major CAD Systems, the offline aspect of CheckMate maximizes CMM throughput and minimizes inspection turnaround by having programs ready to run when the machine is available. Simulation, collision detection/avoidance and probe path optimization ensure programs run as expected".

"Compatible with all modern CMMs it is ideal for environments with machines from multiple vendors and/or where machine availability is at a premium. The CMM programmer oriented user interface and functionally rich command set makes it easy to learn and very productive. With CheckMate programming you can quickly generate programs for geometric feature-based parts and complex free-form surfaces".

Incidentally, if the message from Rob Johnston in 1998 is the person I know personally, he now works for Origin as a key member of their training and support team and can answer any questions you may have.

My sincere regards,
Geoff

CheckMate is produced by Origin in Canada. I believe they have a good reputation for CAD based CMM programming. The DMIS code they produce is quite clean and has worked well in previous coordinated efforts with our (LK) DMIS engine. They have a web site at http://www.origin.com if you want to see more info.

Checkmate is indeed a good solid product, and can generate programs for use with Sheffield software ( Direct Inspect ) and maybe others. Its biggest drawback ( as far as I know )is that it is an OFFLINE product therefore it won't actually run your machine. Which machine are you considering it for?
