One for the record books. I have come across a fixture/gage shop that swears by the height gage & dial indicator alone. I admire their die hard methods but to disavow the results of the modern CMM is simply absurd. Granted, the best way I've found to check hole size is via my set of gage pins. In terms of GD&T for example hole location, one should not rely on such primitive methods. Would you not agree when considering the gage and operator error combined with stack up error involved with height gages? Constructing an alignment to the datum structure then reporting location of each hole separately is far more accurate. Any advice for these people that may help in reassuring their confidence in the CMM would be greatly appreciated.
