Hello,
Have you tried to obtain a spare component or two for a Renishaw tool rack? For want of a roller bearing and a leaf spring, the rack was lost, so to speak. In my attempts to obtain said roller bearing and leaf spring, I learned that my choices were a)exchange the rack or b)send the rack in for repair. Both were expensive alternatives to what amounts to two dollars worth of parts. The loose analogy, I suppose, would be the need for me to trade my car in or have the dealer repair it should I need a new brake pad. As for the Renishaw Interferometer System, it is considerably less expensive then the Hewlett Packard system. However, you get what you pay for. The Renishaw system does not travel well. It is not as solidly built as the HP. If you are collecting long range straightness (> 8M), HP seems is the only way to go. The Renishaw system would be ok for in house applications under 5 meters.
