Having a plate-layout background, then advancing on to CMM programming, I have to side with CMM’s. In the past, I too, have had to check parts via height gage/indicator/gage block/gage pin, thinking to myself, sheeesh, this would be a piece of cake on a CMM. The CMM is just more versatile. I will agree, the best way to check hole SIZE is with gage pins. But calculating true position, with MMC, using an open plate setup... I’ll want the CMM.
