When we started using our system in November of '97, it too, locked up ALOT!!

We have a Gateway 2000 running 16Mb of ram, I contacted LK, and they made me aware of a disk that was packaged with the system that helped resolve the problem. If you have a Gateway, I would talk to Lk, (I can't remember the exact instructions they gave me). Also, if you are running with only 16Mb of memory, MAX IT OUT !! . Ram is Cheap, down-time is expensive, and it did help us out greatly.
