Update: Due to the Forums server outage, this post comes as a brief reminder of information lost previously attached to this thread.
The letter I sent to ASME with regard to establishing datums off the part is being reviewed by Eng. Calvin Gomez of ASME in NY. This was brought to my attention by Bonnie Busler, also of ASME and Larry L. Ray Founder of Rayco R&R Sales Inc., part holding systems. Additionally, Larry will bring the letter to this years Zeiss Usoft Users Group meeting out west in LA. William Tandler who teaches a GD&T class at San Jose State University will be attending the Zeiss meeting.
I'm told ASME owes not only me but all inspectors a detailed explanation of their theory for establishing simulated datums and the repeatability of such. William will be requested to show how simple gage R&R plays a role in their methods.
I look forward to having this resolved by these high ranking officials. I am in hopes of seeing an amendment to the ASME Y14.5M document for a more practical/repeatable approach to establishing datums structures off the part. Since this is how a well portion of us conduct our layouts.
Thanks to John Ruys for later expressing his support in my favor. As John mentioned, this would certainly make all our lives happier.
Any more takers for support are welcome.
