While I'm here this morning I also need your methods for aligning with a slot.
Picture a ring 0.5" thick about 2" ID and 3" OD with a slot cut completely through 1 side. Datums are as follows: one face of the ring as -A-, ID as -B- and the slot as -C-. You measure the plane, then the diameter, then the slot. My question, do you measure a symmetrical point and align from that or do you measure a line or plane on each side and align off of the symmetrical line/plane?? We have a supplier that does the first and we are asking for data for the location of that slot. His way we see all good parts. My way (as I interpret the standard) in the latter and I show out of spec. parts.
What are your thoughts??
