Well I have read and re-read the standard and have come to the conclusion that I have been measuring this wrong. I found another section (5.10.1 Noncircular features at MMC) that gives a little more explanation for checking the location of the slot. I am still not satisfied that this is correct for our application. I think that symmetry may define and give more control for what we need for our assemblies.
