You look at the variation in the radial measurements. Doing this over a length of time gives you a good indication of what to expect from your machine. It also will tell you when something is wrong. If your touch probe starts to go bad the lobing will increase, or if your averages start to increase it is telling you that maybe you need service or calibration.

I have used an MCG for several years have applied it in another method. Once you've got a history and you've got statistical stability and that you remain below the manufacturer's specs, you can lengthen your calibration intervals. You still need to set up some kind of PM for your machine tho.
