I am currently in the final year of my Manufacturing Systems degree and
am in need of some help with my main project. I must design a Jig to
allow irregular, complex items to be measured using a CMM. Irregular
shaped objects are difficult to measure accurately using a CMM due to
the fact that the vertical access Required from the probe cannot always
be obtained. It is therefore necessary to measure the part in different
sections, such as an upper half and a lower half. It is proposed that a jig
be designed and manufactured that would allow a complex part to be
held on the measuring table of the CMM and moved in such a way as to
be able to measure the whole of its surface. The system would then
need to be demonstrated with an example part.
Has anybody got any ideas. ?
I need information on existing systems and methods, materials,
tolerances and designs.
If any body can help I would be most grateful.
I would also be very interested in visiting a site using such an
application. Anywhere in the North of England would be very helpfull !
Thanks again, Chris Lane
