We at Origin International have developed a free form/prismatic alignment software module that executes in conjunction with MeasureMax as well as other CMM metrology software. It will align within a few microns using enough points to limit degrees of freedom of movement, normally 6 points. It can be set up with tolerances to emulate a gauge (i.e. two way/three way locators).
This product is called SoftOrient. It is available on a stand alone basis or part of the CheckMate suite of software.
