I am a CMM programmer and Inspector of prismatic parts.
I need to put together a justification for the purchase of a Renishaw PH-9 probe head. My CMM is a Starrett DCC with a MIH head. Over 90% of 180 programs I have written use at least two probe articulations. Originally, a lack of experience in purchase needs and budget constraints prevented the inclusion of a motorized head. The upgrade would cost approximately $30,000 and must be budgeted for the 2000 year.
My company makes a wide variety of parts but is really a job shop with short runs. Does anybody have experience in justifying this type of purchase using hard data?
